MVS Sponsors High School Team at Nationals
Merrimack Valley Striders supported our coach Scott Ouellette's high school team for the second year in a row. We encourage initiatives that promote youths' interest in running for life-long fitness and to build character by meeting the challenges of training and competition.
Scott assembled a team to attend this year's National Scholastic Sports New Balance Nationals Track Meet held in Greensboro, NC on 6/16 to 6/18/2011.
The following is a report from Coach Scott Ouellette:
The MVS High School team had a very impressive & successful weekend. MVS places 3rd in the 4xmile Relay @ National Scholastic HS Outdoor Track Championship Meet held in Greensboro @ North Carolina A&T University.
MVS ran a strong race and actually led the field with a lap to go before falling to a still impressive 3rd place, which allowed them to capture the bronze medal & National All-American status.
Participating for MVS were: Nathan McCarthy (junior), Patrick Coppinger (sophomore), Alexis Andujar (junior) and Mike Giardina (senior).
All 50 states were represented at this meet and the competition was held over 3-days @ Aggie Stadium. A record number of participants & spectators contributed to the meet sponsor New Balance, claiming this to be the most successful National Meet of all time.
MVS was also well represented in many other events including:
- Freshmen Mile
- Javelin Throw
- Sprint Medley
- Relay Shuttle
- Hurdle Relay
The attached pictures show the entire MVS crew outside of the "Dean Dome" @ the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). As part of the tour of the University, the student/athletes were able to view all of the impressive athletic facilities @ UNC. The other attached picture is of the 4 All-Americans from the 4xmile relay dressed in there "crowns" and awarded t-shirts & medals.
