JUST ONE HILL…AND A MIX OF WEATHER
MVS was well represented in the 60th anniversary running of the Mt. Washington Road Race in June. The race up New England’s highest peak resumed after a 2020 pandemic hiatus as a two-day event with the official women’s race held Saturday June 19 and the men going off Sunday, June 20.
Congratulations to all MVSers who conquered the 7.6 mile ascent through a gauntlet of morning precipitation, high winds, variable temperatures and heavy cloud cover broken by periods of bright sunshine on both days. We are proud to count among the finishers:

MVS once again came out in force to provide volunteer support for the event. Thanks to the intrepid MVS crew who helped out with early morning parking at the Sunday race start – Joe Cosgrove, Andy Cummings, Louise Cummings, Norma DeFusco-King, Gina Ferrante, Paul Hudson, Elisa Jacobs, John Jacobs, Diane Jannetti, John Jannetti, Sushil Motwani, and Dave Tringali.
The logistics for the Mt. Washington Road Race are always a challenge and particularly so this year as the running world finds its footing after a year of social distancing. For the Mt. Washington race participants, the one constant is unpredictable weather in the elevation climb to 4,800 ft.
With that in mind, a special shout--out goes to MVSer Liz MacIver . As support driver to the summit, she deftly maneuvered the family vehicle through rain and low-visibility cloud cover, over road ruts, around sharp, sloping curves, and past barely visible cliff drop-offs. We are happy to report no equipment or personal injury was sustained in the drive which Liz confirms was much more harrowing than the relaxing ladies weekend getaway she anticipated.
